Goalies are the most important players on the ice, hands down. They’re the last line of defense and tend to be the difference—good or bad—in many games.
Montreal Canadiens G Peter Budaj was just that in Wednesday night’s matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks.
In a game that was deadlocked at 2-2, in overtime, Patrick Sharp swept a puck toward the net. Budaj deflected it up in the air with his pads, and then tried to swat the puck away with his stick.
He connected with the puck—unfortunately, he knocked it into his own net, and the Blackhawks won, 3-2.
Budaj owned up to his mistake after the game was over.
#Habs Budaj on winning goal: “That’s just a bad goal. We played a good game and deserved better. That one’s all on me.”
